After much research along with trial & error trying different products, below is a list of what glues/fillers I now use with great success & highly recommend them.
After much research along with trial & error trying different products, below is a list of what glues/fillers I now use with great success & highly recommend them.
- U-POL P.40 Body Filler This is a 2 Part Glass Fibre Paste, This is a popular choice for bonding wood to fibreglass, I use this for bonding the wooden deck & hull supports/beams to the inside of my hull. Once cured it is like cement, It can then be sanded down to give a smooth finish
- U-POL Easy 1 Body Filler A 2-Part Filler that is very easy to sand once set, I used this for sealing around the edges at the bottom of my hull & will also be using it to cover the deck area.
- JB Marine Weld This is a 2-Part Resin that is 100% Waterproof, It can bond similar or different surfaces together, such as metal, aluminium, composites, fibreglass etc. I used this for the skeg area and for fixing metal to metal such as the steel shaft to the brass rudder, copper brackets to the brass rudder etc.
- Evo-Stik Plumber's Mait Repair Putty This is an Epoxy Putty that is fast setting, strong & fully waterproof. It's simple to use & can be moulded into any shape or around objects. I used this for shaping the rudder area & fixing the lower washer in place on the strut.
- Gorilla Super Glue Gel Fast setting super glue in gel form which is perfect when doing small & fiddly jobs as it doesn't drip.
- Gorilla Super Glue Brush Comes with a small brush applicator.
- Gorilla 2-Part Epoxy Resin This is a 2-Part Epoxy Resin which I have used for bonding & sealing wooden joints throughout the build.
- Gorilla Silicone Sealant (Clear) This was used for the joints on the Steam Simulator Unit water tank.
- Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue This is my go-to choice of wood glue, its strong, 100% waterproof & ideal for exterior use so perfect for bonding wood together in model boats where water could come into contact with it. Unlike lots of other wood glue brands, this does NOT expand while setting!
- Model X Pro This is a plastic weld solution, it is what I used for bonding the clear acrylic panels together for the water tank on my Steam Simulator Unit.
- Colron Wood Filler This is a high quality Sand & Seal filler which I used for filling the gaps between the strips of planking on my wheelhouse. Very easy to apply & sand for a perfect finish once set.
- Dulux Woodsheen (French Oak) An All-In-One Interior & Exterior Stain & Varnish, Many colour options to choose from, I decided to go with French Oak which I used on the wheelhouse.
